Car Accident & Whiplash Physiotherapy in Grande Prairie

I was injured in a car accident - now what?

If you have pain or dizziness from your car accident, physiotherapy will help.

Even minor car accidents can cause injuries such as whiplash, pain, headaches, dizziness, or stiffness—sometimes days or weeks after the incident. Physiotherapy plays a key role in identifying and treating these injuries early.

Through individualized assessment and targeted treatment, The Garden Physiotherapy helps reduce pain, restore movement, and prevent ongoing or chronic symptoms. Early treatment can support a safer, more complete recovery and help you return to work, daily activities, and life with confidence.

Common injuries after a car accident:

  • Whiplash (neck strain/sprain)
  • Back pain
  • Stiffness
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Concussion symptoms
  • Hip and shoulder pain
  • Jaw pain (TMJ dysfunction)

Early physiotherapy treatment matters!

Many symptoms appear days or weeks after an accident. Without treatment, they can become chronic. You are usually still eligible for funding even if the pain started later.

Early physiotherapy helps:

  • Reduce pain and inflammation
  • Restore movement and function
  • Prevent long-term complications
  • Speed up recovery timelines
  • Educate and empower you to take control of your recovery

What to expect from physiotherapy after a car accident injury:

Your assessment will include:

  • Full injury and symptom evaluation
  • Vestibular screening for dizziness/vertigo
  • Concussion screening
  • Personalized treatment plan
  • Insurance reporting
  • Recommendations for other services, if required (such as vestibular assessment,  concussion assessment, audiogram, chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture or medical management)

Treatment may include:

  • Manual therapy
  • Guided exercise rehab
  • Taping/bracing
  • Vestibular therapy
  • Concussion rehabilitation
  • Dry needling
  • Education and recovery planning

Is direct billing for physiotherapy available?

If you were injured in a car accident in Alberta, you are likely eligible for funded physiotherapy treatment—often without a doctor’s referral.

Most car accident injuries qualify for direct billing of physiotherapy treatment to the auto insurance company if treatment is sought within 90 days of the accident. If physiotherapy occurs 90 days after the accident date, funding is available but conditions apply.

Funding and direct billing to auto insurance is available at The Garden Physiotherapy for physiotherapy required as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
